Over 2,000 resident doctors from Ahmedabad, Bhavnagar, Rajkot, Surat, Vadodara and some other major cities of Gujarat went on a strike on Wednesday over their demands that have been pending before the state government.

Services were affected at BJ Medical College and Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad as the strike was announced from 5pm on Tuesday. Resident doctors had met senior officials from the health department earlier but because of no clear answers, the dilemma continued till Tuesday night before the doctors continued the strike on Wednesday.

In a letter submitted to the authorities, the resident doctors had sought bond period calculation as 1:2 (doubling the calculation of days of duty), benefits of seventh pay commission, appointment in their own alma mater on account of loss of study in the first year during the pandemic, and implementation of the scheme of senior residentship along with bond.
